May is a big month if you want to dedicate it to something.  May is the national month for both the serious and the bizarre.  Of more earnest causes… May is arthritis awareness month, stroke awareness month and for the past 50 years the month we celebrate older adults across the nation month.  The theme is “Unleash the Power of Age”…emphasizing older Americans potential for energy and activism and urges us to embrace it.  There are more May dedications that include the more bizarre special recognitions, below.

The Washington Post is reporting that with Congress unable to agree on a deficit reduction deal, programs such as Medicare continue to consume large amounts of government resources. The post reports entitlement spending is squeezing out investments in education, research and other fields. The report concludes that entitlement programs thrive amid gridlock… shifting money from younger generations to the old.

Later in the week we will be publishing several new podcasts…both here and on iTunes.  One is from cardiologist and a Phd in microbiology…Dr. Frederick Schaub who writes about human fears.  He shares some really interesting ideas.

Things to get interested in.  Like cooking?  Mimi…our Mediterranean cook diva shares a great recipe….orzo pasta with garlic, onions fava beans  tomatoes….and green onions.

Love that mediterranean and it’s so good for you. …again you can see it right here on Active Seniors HQ…

Oh yes, and finally what other events make May special.  Just a few …bike month…moving month and national pet month.
