May is a big month if you want to dedicate it to something. May is the national month for both the serious and the bizarre. Of more earnest causes… May is arthritis awareness month, stroke awareness month and for the past 50 years the month we celebrate older adults across the nation month. The theme is “Unleash the Power of Age”…emphasizing older Americans potential for energy and activism and urges us to embrace it. The Washington Post is reporting that with Congress unable to agree on a deficit reduction deal, programs such as Medicare continue to consume large amounts of government resources. The post reports entitlement spending is squeezing out investments in education, research and other fields.The report concludes that entitlement programs thrive amid gridlock… shifting money from younger generations to the old.
